ESP Spring 5 Wrap-Up, May 12-13, 2012

Equestrian Sport Productions (ESP) concluded the fifth and final week of its 2012 spring horse show series this weekend with great success. The ESP Spring 5 competition was held on May 12-13 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) in Wellington, FL.
The PBIEC will host more exciting competition throughout the upcoming months with the ESP Summer Show Series. The series will begin with the June I and June II horse shows, running June 1-3 and June 8-10, and featuring 'A' rated hunter and 3* jumper competition.
The June I horse show will kick the series off with a $10,000 Open Jumper Stake on Friday, June 1, and a $25,000 Grand Prix on Saturday, June 2. More info... May 14, 2012

Circle Tires for Smooth Runs and Fast Times

Whether training, maintaining or problem solving with your barrel horse you will be using different tools to reach your goal. Keeping an open mind, we are able to add more tools and resources to our toolbox. My training toolbox is full of drills and exercises that target the moves we need to execute a barrel pattern. I use exercises to train young horses, maintain and enhance the horses in the seasoning process and to sharpen up and strengthen the experienced horses. One of the drills I use to cover all of these bases is a drill I like to call “Circle Tires”. Essentially, we are circling tires, but it isn’t that simple. When done correctly and precisely it can actually be quite challenging.
Setup:
Place tires in a circle that is approximately 50 ft across. You can give or take 10 feet depending on what you have room for. I like to use bicycle tires because they are easy to move around and don’t get full of water like cars tires do. Use 5 – 8 tires to make your circle depending on what you have room for. Try and have the tires at least 20 feet apart. The closer they are to each other the more challenging it will be. More info... May 10, 2012
Carissimo and Molly Ashe-Cawley Hit The Heights at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows

Molly Ashe-Cawley of Wellington, FL and Carissimo bested a field of 25 top horse-and-rider combinations to win the 1.4 Meter Jumper class on Wednesday at the Old Salem Spring Horse Shows, held on the beautiful grounds of Old Salem Farm in North Salem, NY.
Ashe-Cawley and Carissimo, a 12 year-old, bay, Holsteiner gelding by Calando I, completed the first-round course and the jump-off fault free, stopping the timers in the jump-off in 39.001 seconds for the win. Ashe-Cawley showed the gelding successfully this winter in Wellington and they are continuing to succeed as the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows get underway. More info... May 10, 2012
Do Your Riding Muscles Remember What It’s Like To Be in Shape?
Getting ready to ride a green three-year-old stallion is not the best time to focus on the fact that you haven’t ridden a horse in six months.
But there I stood, half chaps and helmet in hands, waiting for my turn to ride the colt I was considering buying while the seller rode him first.
How did I get there? I can jokingly blame it on the flu, which is what I wrote before about how I got started on my new horse search.
I didn’t intend to end up looking at a stallion, but he had passed all the other criteria, and I’m told that being a stallion can be remedied with one quick surgical procedure. More info...
